Faith in the City Workshop Series: How do we talk about sexuality as Christians?

Updated onDecember 11, 2014

January 6 – 9, 2015 at Virginia Union University

This course is offered to the Richmond Community free of charge. Full attendance is required for course credit. Persons may attend all or part of the program. Lunch will be provided every day. The event will be held on campus at Virginia Union University.

We will seek in this course to model the desire of God for human community.  We come together not to destroy and defeat one another, but to seek life.  We encounter one another with grace and Christian hospitality.

We want to examine sexuality  in the context of other large theological challenges which surround us and bear on this topic.

Objectification of people.  We are in the midst of an epidemic that objectifies other human beings for the purposes of personal gratification; a commodification, a functional attitude that forecloses any possibility  of intimacy.

Breakdown of the family.  Part of the breakdown of the family is that we commodify each other. Relationship is about me having a good time. It is not a function of sexuality — it’s a function of sociological pain.
