Celebrating Black History Month

Updated onFebruary 28, 2025

Come celebrate Black History Month at Richmond Hill with our theme, “I HAVE to tell the story,” based on scripture from the Psalms:

“…things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation.”

Psalm 78:3-4

We will be blessed with three different preachers for community worship the first three weeks, and then a documentary and panel discussion the final week.  The services will begin at 5:30pm, followed by dinner at 6:30pm featuring a chef from the Underground Kitchen each week.

  • February 4 – Rev. Sylvester “Tee” Turner is the Pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church and one of the Founding Members of Richmond Hill.
  • February 11 – Rev. Dr. Herbert Ponder is the Pastor of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church and a long-time Richmond Hill supporter. Cancelled due to weather.
  • February 18 – Rev. Dr. Valerie Carter Smith is the Executive Director/Treasurer of the Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia and author of the Book Sisters.
  • February 25 – The premiere of the Armstrong Leadership Program’s Cultural History Immersion Project (CHIP) documentary, “I Am My Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams,”  including a panel discussion with project participants moderated by Dr. Lauranett Lee.
