Art & Spirituality: Night & Day — an Overnight Art Retreat

Updated onDecember 3, 2019

Friday Overnight beginning at 4:00 pm, January 17, and Saturday from 9:00 am-3:00 pm, January 18

CALLING all who want to spend a night and a day being creative in the prayer soaked walls of Richmond Hill. COME to write, journal, paint, make cards for others, create a collage, draw with pencil or colored pencils, or use markers. You can CREATE a stained glass or Illuminated manuscript using tissue paper, or try pen and ink, watercolors or bring your own supplies.

COME and join us beginning Friday, the 17th at 4:00 to sign in. From 4:00 until 5:45 you can rest in your room, check out the library, the labyrinth, or sit in the lounge and meet others. At 6:00 sharp we begin evening prayers in the Chapel followed by a delicious dinner with conversation at 6:30. At 7:30 we will all meet downstairs in the art room and share our thoughts around the topic of CREATIVITY by looking at some of the following questions:

  •          What is creativity?
  •          Where does it come from?
  •          Who has it?
  •          What is your favorite medium or style?
  •          Where does your inspiration come from?
  •          Is art a form of spirituality?
  •          How do you use your art?
  •          Do you have a favorite artist? Who? Why?
  •          Do you have a studio or special way or place where you practice your art?
  •          Where is God in creativity or in your art?

At 8:50 we will walk up to the Chapel for Compline followed by light refreshments before bed.

Saturday morning begins at 7:00 am with morning prayers in the Chapel followed by breakfast in the refectory at 7:30. By 8:45 we will again meet in the Art room for a brief introduction to the day and to begin our full day of creativity. So if you want to explore theses questions and hear what others have share, if you want to awaken your own creativity, come a join us from 4:00 pm Friday, January 17, to 3:00 pm Saturday, January 18.

Brenda Giannini, facilitator, works to open us to the sacred dimensions of our lives through the gifts of the visual arts.

Suggested donation: $110 (Friday – Saturday), $30 (Saturday only). Space is limited.

Register here, or contact Mary Lewis at Richmond Hill at 804-783-7903.
