ALP Update: March 30, 2026

Updated onMarch 27, 2026

As part of her graduate advocacy project, our VCU Intern, Sage Lally presented a social work perspective at the recent Faith in Action forum held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She highlighted how the ALP program actively addresses the social determinants of health impacting the students and families we serve. Her contribution helped connect community stakeholders to the broader impact of holistic, equity-focused support systems.

Recently, students participated in a C.H.I.P. trip to Washington, DC. The group visited the Frederick Douglass Historic Home, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. In addition to these powerful historical experiences, students also had the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms at their peak. The trip provided space for reflection, learning, and connection, helping students engage more deeply with history and its relevance to their lives today.

The program is also proud to welcome Samaya Goffney, a Virginia Union University intern and recent ALP graduate, who was introduced at last week’s Superintendent’s Interfaith Council meeting! Samaya has already made a strong impression, and the ALP team is excited to support her continued growth and professional journey.

In addition to advocacy and enrichment opportunities, ALP remains committed to meeting students’ basic needs. Thanks to a generous donation from First Presbyterian Church, food boxes and healthy snacks were made available for students to take home over Spring Break. This effort helped ensure continued access to nutritious food during a time when school-based resources may be limited.

Together, these efforts reflect ALP’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole child through advocacy, community partnership, and direct service.

– Ms. Yvette Davis Rajput, Executive Director of ALP
