Our Roots, Our Healing, Our Transformation – A 24-hr Retreat

Updated onOctober 29, 2024

4:00pm Friday, October 11 –
4:00pm Saturday, October 12, 2024

“Our Roots, Our Healing, Our Transformation” is a profound 24-hour retreat experience to delve into the rich tapestry of history, resilience, and transformation embodied in Richmond’s historic Church Hill district. Participants embark on an immersive journey through time, exploring significant landmarks that bear witness to the enduring legacies of struggle and triumph.

Through experiential learning, reflective exercises, and heartfelt conversations, attendees are invited to deepen their understanding of the interconnectedness of past and present, recognizing the profound impact of history on individual and collective identities. As the layers of history unfold, participants are guided to confront uncomfortable truths, honor ancestral wisdom, and embrace the potential for healing and growth.

This transformative retreat provides a sacred space for introspection and dialogue, nurturing a sense of community and solidarity among participants. Grounded in the principles of equity and justice, “Our Roots, Our Healing, Our Transformation” empowers individuals to channel their insights and emotions into actionable steps towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.

On Saturday morning there will be a leisurely walk to several sites in the Church Hill community. There may be a limited number of steps, a minimal amount of cobblestones or uneven surfaces, and some standing for extended periods of time.  Please let us know when registering if you will need any accommodation in order to participate.

This retreat is for anyone seeking to be involved in shared learning with moral and intellectual humility and a willingness to journey towards racial justice and healing to build the beloved community.

Join us on this transformative journey of discovery, as we acknowledge and honor our roots, cultivate healing, and embrace the power of transformation to shape a brighter future for all.

Leadership provided by Dr. Lauranett Lee and Cathy Woodson.

Suggested Donation: $125 (covers lodging, food, and experiences)

Deadline to register is October 8, 2024. Space is limited to 15 people.
