Unearthing Buried Stories

Updated onSeptember 9, 2020

Thursday, September 17 via Zoom, 7-8:30p

Come join the discussion

Join Richmond Hill on Thursday, September 17 for a special Zoom presentation by archaeologist Tim Roberts as he facilitates “slow archaeology” — a process that allows you to ask questions and contribute to the meaning of found items, as we go. This event will be heavily focused on community conversation.

What does it mean to unearth a 5,000-year-old arrowhead or an age-old piece of fabric? At Richmond Hill, we are demystifying the process of archaeology by inviting you, the interested learner, to participate — or in the era of covid-19, at least witness and interact with each stage of discovery via facebook live and Zoom.

These stages include identifying artifacts and features, excavation, and analysis. Archaeology helps us tell the truth of enslavement on this property and better understand the origins of racism and social inequalities that still persist today. It presents important opportunities for us to challenge our preconceived notions.
