The Book of the Dead of Nesshu is an important document for several reason, first because it belongs to the unique hieratic tradition at the town of Akhmim, for which only two other Books of the Dead are known, and second because it contains a number of spells that did not survive in the other two documents. The coffin containing the mummy and Book of the Dead of Nesshu was found intact, but much of the Book was destroyed when it was removed from the mummy. It exists today in over 200 fragments, and here for the first time all texts and illustrations have been identified, the various fragments reassembled photographically per spell, and the texts translated.
