Armstrong Leadership Program Mentor Training

Updated onMarch 30, 2022

Saturday, April 30th, from 9:am til Noon at Richmond Hill with Mentor Virginia (coffee/donuts). 10 slots available

(If unable to attend on April 30, 2022, please inquire about other training dates with Mentor Virginia.)

The Armstrong Leadership Program (ALP) is a positive youth development and invention program designed to  challenge, develop, stimulate, and grow our student leaders physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The program serves a cohort of 30-35 students in grades 9 through 12 from Armstrong High School, in Richmond’s East End.

ALP is seeking adult mentors to match with our newest roster of student leaders. Youth mentoring is a consistent, prosocial relationship between an adult or older peer. Mentoring has been shown to improve self-esteem, academic achievement, and peer relationships and reduce drug use, aggression, depressive symptoms, and delinquent acts. Having that additional level of support can make the difference in the life of today’s youth.

If you are called to serve as a  one-on-one mentor, please contact us for more information. Seeking passionate men and women dedicated to spending at least two hours a month (virtual or in-person) with their mentee for a commitment of one year.

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself” — Oprah Winfrey

  • Minimum time commitment (2.0 hours monthly activity with youth)
