Grief hurts…

Richmond Hill is committed to the spiritual healing and transformation of metropolitan Richmond. Change of this magnitude happens at a personal level, and often individual growth comes with pain experienced from loss. Richmond Hill, partnered with Dr. Sandra Gramling, now offers an array of programs to help one cope with grief.

Grief is a natural consequence which follows loss. There are many ways we suffer loss: loss of job, divorce, loss of a life-long dream, the death of someone close. Losses like these can leave us awash in painful emotions, confusing and conflicting thoughts, and facing difficult new tasks of daily living. Bereavement often leaves our sense of self and purpose strained and sometimes shattered.

Our grief support groups offer a safe haven to share experiences and learn from others’ experiences in a supportive and confidential setting.

Drop-In Grief Support Group

For those who want the opportunity to share experiences and obtain support from others who are experiencing a loss in a flexible group format. Each group begins with an informative 15 minute overview of a grief related topic. Discussion and reflection on the impact of loss, coping, meaning-making etc follows the brief presentation.

These groups meet on the fourth Friday of every month from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

For the 2017 year these dates are: Jan 27, Feb 24, Mar 24, Apr 28, May 26, Jun 23, Jul 28, Aug 25, Sept 22, Oct 27, Nov 17*, Dec 8*

For the 2018 year these dates are: Jan 26, Feb 23, Mar 23, Apr 27, May 25, Jun 22, Jul 27, Aug 24, Sept 21, Oct 26, Nov 16*, Dec 14*

* (Nov and Dec fall on different dates due to holidays).

Creating Pathways through Grief Day Retreats

The expressive arts have long been helpful in processing our grief.  It is often restorative to bypass the intellect and work with our hands and heart. We can express our grief and find new insights about our journey.

People are often amazed by what unfolds from their creative efforts. The retreat also includes an opportunity to share what has been created with other retreatants. Other expressive art opportunities will also be available including a dream work exercise, a choice of various writing exercises and an art for “stuck points” in the grief journey exercise.

Activities may include:

• Collage (Vision Board)

• Writing (various exercises)

• Create a Mandala
